In February, we celebrate the annual National Girls and Women in Sports Day (NGWSD)! For more than three decades, this special day has celebrated the achievements of those who have effected change and created opportunities for women and girls in sports. This year’s NGWSD theme, Expanding Opportunity: The Power of Play, recognizes the extraordinary progress and benefits of ensuring access to sports for girls and women.

February Theme: The Fun of Walking

It's important to remember that walking is FUN! Find new and exciting ways to walk with friends and family. Consider joining a mallwalking group or indoor walking club when weather starts to make walking outdoors uncomfortable.

Join America Walks in using #FunWalks to share stories and resources related to this topic.

Mark your Calenders for World Day for Physical Activity (April 6)!

World Physical Activity Day began in 2002, when the World Health Organization designated the promotion of physical activity as a theme for World Health Day, inspired by the Brazilian movement Agita São Paulo.  Supporters are encouraged to organize local events, such as walking parades and other inclusive fitness opportunities.

What are you doing to celebrate World Physical Activity Day? April 6 is your opportunity to walk, bike or run to help create a healthier life for you and the global community. This year's World Physical Activity Day carries the theme Active People! Happy People!

New Report Identifies Root Causes of Health Inequity in the U.S., Outlines Solutions for Communities to Advance Health Equity

With support from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine convened an ad hoc, expert committee to consider solutions that could be identified, developed, and implemented at the local or community level to advance health equity. In the resulting report, Communities in Action: Pathways to Health Equity, the committee identifies the major elements of effective or promising solutions and their key levers, policies, stakeholders, and other elements needed to be successful.
